Rangers ‘to cash in’ on Rabbi Matondo after Ibrox agreement – Ferguson

Rangers will look to cash in on next summer Rabbi Matondo after his loan move to Hannover in the winter transfer window, Barry Ferguson says.

The ex-Gers star believes the Light Blues will look to recoup some of the money they spent on the 24-year-old if all goes well in Germany.

Ferguson feels the Wales forward’s move away from Ibrox was best for both parties due to his limited minutes this season.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (3 February), the 47-year-old said: “I think it was best for both parties. [Matondo] wasn’t really involved. His career has been biting with injuries. I believe he was a high-earner as well.

“He’ll go over there on loan until the end of the season and if he impresses, Rangers can obviously try and claw back a bit of the transfer fee they paid. If he does well, they can hopefully cash in on him.”

Rangers to sanction Rabbi Matondo permanent exit next summer

Matondo joined the Bears in the summer of 2022 from Schalke, but injuries have hampered his development at the Glaswegian outfit.

The 24-year-old picked up another fitness issue at the start of the season and found it difficult to get back into the team with the emergence of other players.

It felt like the right time to part ways with the Welsh national as Philippe Clement didn’t seem to trust him anymore.

Rangers have seemingly found a solution for their left-wing in Ianis Hagi, whose resurgence has been embraced by the Ibrox faithful.

The Romanian playmaker has made a difference since returning to the starting lineup, justifying his consistent inclusion in recent matches as he scored a brace in the 4-0 win over Ross County on 2 February.

Vaclav Cerny has also cemented his place in the Light Blues’ attack, but it remains to be seen whether his loan move from Wolfsburg will be made permanent.

Matondo’s transfer has not worked out at the Bears and it would be best for them to take their loss on him.
