Lyall Cameron transfer: Dundee ‘unhappy’ after late Rangers announcement

Dundee will be unhappy about losing Lyall Cameron to Rangers on a pre-contract transfer, Kris Boyd says.

The former Gers ace believes the Dark Blues will be disappointed after the Bears deadline day announcement of the 22-year-old’s arrival at the end of the season once his contract expires.

Boyd approved the midfielder’s singing but believes the youngster will have to fight for his place at Ibrox with quality players already at Philippe Clement’s disposal.

Speaking on The Scottish Sun SPORT (2 February), the 41-year-old said: “Cameron will come in. He’ll have to hit the ground running because there’s going to be competition for places when you look at Raskin, Diomande and Barron.

“I think it’s a decent addition. At the age he’s at, he’s got time to mature and develop. It’s going to be a big jump for him. But he’s shown promise in a Dundee jersey. I’m sure they won’t be happy at losing him, but at the same time, they’ll be proud of the work they’ve done.”

Rangers seal impressive Lyall Cameron transfer

Nils Koppen needs to be credited for swiftly concluding a deal for Cameron instead of dragging it out until the summer.

The 22-year-old has caught a lot of people’s attention in recent months, and it wouldn’t have been surprising to see more teams vying for his signature further down the line.

With eight goals and seven assists in 30 appearances this season, the Scottish midfielder has been a revelation.

Rangers undoubtedly have high hopes for the 22-year-old, considering how quick they were in announcing his arrival.

The Gers have recently shifted focus to signing younger players, which can be highlighted by the core of the squad.

Clement has heavily relied on Nicolas Raskin, Hamza Igamane and Mohammed Diomande in the current campaign.

The consistent inclusion of youngsters has led to better performances from the Light Blues after a poor start to the season.

There is an apparent change of guard at Ibrox, with veterans like Cyriel Dessers, James Tavernier, Tom Lawrence, and others seemingly on their way out.

How Cameron fares in a Bears shirt next season remains to be seen.
