Zak Lovelace to complete Rangers exit close to deadline

Rangers are “finished” for the winter transfer window once Zak Lovelace formally leaves for Millwall, according to Four Lads Had a Dream.

The Light Blues blog and podcast page posted on X (3 February) to report the final stance in Govan as the deadline looms, with Lovelace set to be the seventh winter departure.

Lovelace is expected to seal an Ibrox exit to return to the South London club, from whom Gers signed him as a 16-year-old in 2022.

The teenage forward is keen to return to London despite the potential to be given more of a first-team opportunity by Philippe Clement in the remaining months of the season – a chance now likely to be given to other young starlets pushing the senior squad.

“Rangers are finished in the transfer window for this evening,” Four Lads shared on Monday night ahead of the 11pm deadline (3 February).

“Zak Lovelace will return to Millwall, deal plus add-ons is agreed and will be completed later on this evening (barring any disasters).

“The push behind Curtis, Rice and Nsio will be given, and [it’s] up to them to grab their chance.”

Rangers selling Zak Lovelace back to Millwall

With a fee agreed, Rangers will reluctantly bid farewell to a player they initially snatched from Millwall back in 2022.

England youth international Lovelace has made four senior appearances for Clement this season with little to play for in the Scottish Premiership this year and academy prospects being given a more concrete chance in recent weeks.

It has not been enough of a shout to keep Lovelace in Glasgow, however, as he returns to The Den two-and-a-half years on from his original departure.

Alex Neil’s side have potentially found their replacement for Romain Esse, who left for their neighbours Crystal Palace.

It will represent the second permanent departure from Clement’s squad in the current window after Alex Lowry, with five more leaving on loan deals.

Many Rangers fans will feel deflated for further incomings after Rafael Fernandes not to have taken place, but busy activity is anticipated to take place throughout the summer if Gers are to build a serious challenge.

In other Rangers news, the compensation amount for Lyall Cameron has been revealed to take him as a free agent from Dundee in the summer.
