Tom Lawrence exit: Noises emerge from Rangers hours before deadline

Rangers are considering costs with a late free exit on the cards for Tom Lawrence ahead of the deadline, Dan Plumley has said.

The Bears are said to be open to allowing the Welsh international to leave for nothing, with Besiktas open to a move with his contract expiring in the summer (Aksam Spor).

Plumley, a football finance expert, admits that cost considerations are key after noises coming from Ibrox with English clubs also interested before the 11 pm deadline on 3 February.

“Certainly, looking at the numbers,” he exclusively told Ibrox News.

“The club have made noises to that effect, coming out of the AGM, it’s not desperate circumstances just yet but there are some cost considerations.

We know they are touting for some investment coming in and going through a transition on the pitch as well. We’ve spoken about them not being where they want to be in the league this season and that has financial implications when you look at qualification for European competitions as we’ve said a lot with Rangers and Scottish football.

Rangers to sell Tom Lawrence today?

I think, to me, that looks like more of a move to get players off the wage bill and when you’re looking at that in the long term, they are significant earners and that does save you a significant amount of cost.

If you’re going to shake things up in the future given where the club are at, it makes sense to do that business early and it becomes more of a wage consideration rather than a transfer fee consideration.”

Lawrence was a key performer for Rangers at the start of the season, but things have changed now.

With injuries hitting the attacker hard, Danilo, Ianis Hagi and Hamza Igamane have stepped into form at the right time throughout different periods at Ibrox.

Nils Koppen will be looking at all options before the deadline tonight but could make a serious save on wages with this exit being sanctioned.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement could seal two new transfers before tonight at Ibrox
