Rangers transfer round-up: Late exit on cards for senior ace, Yilmaz makes U-turn

Rangers have seen their form improve of late, but Philippe Clement will be eager to get any final transfers done before the window closes.

The Gers sit 10 points behind Celtic, showing just how poor they have been of late and why upgrades are needed, even if results have improved of late.

Focus has to be on the Europa League and Scottish Cup this term so the Belgian boss will need as strong a squad as possible to assist in achieving these aims.

Here, Ibrox News rounds up all the latest Gers transfer talk from lunchtime on Deadline Day.

Ridvan Yilmaz makes U-turn

According to Firat Gunayer (3 February), Ridvan Yilmaz has now decided he is open to a return to Besiktas despite previously saying he was not interested.

However, the Gers will only agree to a loan deal if the Turkish side agrees to make the move permanent for £3.75-4.2million at the end of the campaign.

The Super Lig side are not keen on a deal this high so this could depend on whether there is any shifting of stance from the Scottish side to make it happen.

Rangers make last-gasp effort for striker transfer

Although it was reported by Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad (3 February) that Vertessen is set to join RB Salzburg on a permanent transfer, the Gers are doing their best to hijack this late on.

According to Pieter-Jan Calcoen (3 February), Clement’s side are attempting to convince the striker to come to Ibrox instead.

However, unless a big offer is made, it is unlikely this ploy will be successful and the Light Blues are not in a position to be throwing around big money.

Late exit on cards for Tom Lawrence

According to Dan Plumley (3 February), Rangers are considering sanctioning a late exit for Tom Lawrence on a free transfer.

The forward is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and Besiktas were previously said to be open to a move for his services [Aksam Spor, 18 October].

Plumley has suggested that the Light Blues may allow Lawrence to leave now in order to cut costs rather than pay his wages for the remainder of the campaign.

Therefore, if there are interested suitors, we could well see a late departure from Ibrox.
