Celtic reveal live on BBC Sports leaves Thompson stunned on Rangers coverage
Steven Thompson was left stunned during live coverage of Rangers against Ross County on Sunday as Celtic took the lead at Motherwell within a minute.
The two bitter Old Firm rivals were playing simultaneously on Sunday afternoon (2 February), with Daizen Maeda giving Celtic the lead within seconds of kick-off at Fir Park.
Thompson was shocked by the pace at which they scored, in response to Thomas Duncan revealing the goal while covering the Light Blues’ simple 4-0 win at Ibrox.
“You are kidding, are they?!”, Thompson belted out live on BBC Sportsound (2 February, 15:02).
Rangers looking to take care of their own business
Rangers have enjoyed high points at various times during this season, but have struggled to gather a sustained sense of positivity.
An example came as the Gers began 2025 with a memorable Ibrox win over their old enemy (2 January), inflicting Celtic’s first defeat of the Scottish Premiership season with gusto.
Unfortunately for Philippe Clement, results before and after that day were suspect and left his job security heavily questioned.

A month on, the Light Blues secured an excellent Europa League victory over Union Saint-Gilloise (30 January) at Ibrox, confirming a surprise spot in the top eight of the competition’s revamped league phase which ensures a pass to the round of 16.
Rangers now need to maintain some consistency and give fans plenty to cheer about this season, with an expectancy back for fans to enjoy performances again.
In other Rangers news, a Serie A club have made one Gers ace their primary target before the transfer deadline.
