Rangers remove six-figure wages after double transfer development
Nils Koppen has taken roughly £50,000-a-week off the Rangers wage bill after the exits of Kieran Dowell and Rabbi Matondo, according to the Daily Record.
The newspaper reported in its print edition (1 February, pg 54) that following Dowell and Matondo’s loan moves to Birmingham City and Hannover 96 respectively, the Gers are now saving thousands.
Koppen and the Ibrox hierarchy are also looking at moving Tom Lawrence on before the winter window closes on 3 February, allowing more game-time for the likes of Findlay Curtis, Bailey Rice and Paul Nsio.
Transfer interest in Lawrence has come from several angles in the last two transfer windows, and sanctioning an exit for the 31-year-old would free up further leeway on the weekly wage bill.

The fact that a whopping £50,000 has been shaved off the weekly wage bill at Ibrox with the departures of Matondo and Dowell, shows how lacklustre the Gers’ awarding of contracts has been previously.
Dowell and Matondo’s respective impacts at Ibrox have been limited at best – and have amounted to null this season – making it baffling that the duo were earning an average of £25,000 per week respectively.

Sending the pair out on loan moves doesn’t entirely eradicate the problem of their sizeable pay packets, but will at least free up wages for the Bears to bring in potential new signings ahead of the deadline.
Transfer interest in Lawrence – a player who was key for Philippe Clement’s side earlier this season – has been much easier to come by, and he too is a high earner who would be much better off the books.
Clement’s side are still in the hunt for reinforcements as the final days of the winter window tick down, and with their wage bill freed up for the first time in a long time, the Light Blues could push the boat out.
