Rangers locked in £4.1m Ridvan Yilmaz exit talks as left-back spotted abroad

Besiktas are still locked in negotiations with Rangers over a deal to re-sign Ridvan Yilmaz, according to Sabah.

The Turkish newspaper reported via their print edition on Friday (31 January, page 15) that Rangers want £4.1million for the 23-year-old left-back.

However, it is understood that Besiktas have told the Scottish giants they’re only willing to pay £2.5million for the Turkiye international and they’re not willing to meet the Gers’ demands.

Yilmaz spotted in Turkey after jetting out before Rangers win

Yilmaz has been absent for Rangers’ last two matches. On Sunday (26 January), ahead of the win at Dundee United, the left-back was spotted abroad after jetting out to Turkey.

Philippe Clement has since said he’s injured but speculation continues to swirl around the full-back’s Ibrox future.

And it’s no surprise either.

Yilmaz has lost his spot at left-back to Jefte with the young Brazilian emerging as one of the hottest prospects in all of Scottish football.

There was a lot of hype about Yilmaz when he first arrived from Besiktas in 2022. Unfortunately, in two and a half years, he’s not really shown himself to be much of an improvement on Borna Barisic.

When considering how Rangers have played over the years, with Barisic and James Tavernier scoring and assisting heaps of goals due to their brilliant attacking play, Yilmaz’s numbers seem pretty poor.

In 68 outings in all competitions with the Gers, he’s scored twice and only assisted five goals.

Of course, that’s not the true measure of how good a left-back is but overall, he’s just been bang average or worse.

He’s been nothing spectacular and won’t be greatly missed if he is sold before the transfer deadline in Turkiye on 11 February.
