Rabbi Matondo transfer twist: Sale conditions emerge after Rangers loan exit

Hannover 96 will not trigger the £1million purchase clause for Rangers’ Rabbi Matondo without promotion to the Bundesliga, according to BILD.

The German newspaper reported via its website [31 January] that the German club have the option to exercise this deal depending on the player’s performances and their league status.

It is understood that should Hannover fail to secure promotion this season, it would be improbable for them to afford the permanent deal, which would include his salary and bonuses.

Rabbi Matondo Rangers return on the cards?

Matondo’s time in Glasgow has been absolutely plagued by injuries, playing just 11 games more than matches missed due to injury since his move to Ibrox in July 2022 [Transfermarkt].

The majority of supporters were extremely glad to see the back of him when his loan move to Hannover was announced, but with his permanent exit relying on Hannover winning promotion, he could return.

The German side are fifth in the Bundesliga 2, one point off the play-off spots and three points behind the league leaders, Hamburg, after 19 matches.

Matondo has come up with some very special moments for the Light Blues, not least his stunning goal against Celtic last season, but his time spent in the treatment room is just too much to handle.

His signing is definitely one that the hierarchy will regret, having splashed up to £3million on his signature in 2022 [Rangers News], and it would be a miracle if the Gers were able to retain any profit on his exit.

The Welshman has bounds of talent locked away, but when he is unable to remain fit for a considerable amount of time, it is almost impossible for him to prove it to managers and supporters.

Hopefully, his move to Hannover benefits all parties and the Gers manager to sell him in the summer.
