Nils Koppen could pull off Rangers transfer masterstroke after £4.1m+ windfall

Rangers proved the doubters wrong and managed to miraculously finish eighth in the Europa League table.

While their domestic form has been rather poor, Philippe Clement’s men have always managed to turn things up a gear or two when playing in the Europa League.

The 2024/25 season has been a strange one for fans and Clement as they have often ended up calling for his head after a poor performance in the league.

However, it seems that the Belgian is safe for now and with just a few days left in the winter transfer window, now is the right time for Clement to get things straight at Ibrox.

So, the fact that the Gers have received a £4.1million windfall thanks to the £376,402.50 they earned for their win against Union Saint-Gilloise as well as the £3,789,118m they’re getting for finishing in the top eight of the Europa League. [Scotlands Coefficient, 30 January].

One new face has already been brought in to help bolster Rangers’ defensive ranks but it still feels like more needs to be done if they want to be competitive in the latter stages of the Europa League.

Rangers need to use their £4.1m to boost their ranks

If the Ibrox outfit could manage to replicate their form on the European stages into the domestic side of things, they’d be a force to be reckoned with.

A lot of things haven’t gone the Gers’ way this season such as injuries to a number of first-team players as well as the lurking question of whether Clement would be relieved of his duties.

However, now the Ibrox outfit have managed to scrape their way through, it still feels like they could do with some new additions.

Nils Koppen has been at the centre of the Gers’ transfer business over the last couple of windows but has likely been hindered by the lack of funding he’s had.

However, as the Gers have now received an influx of cash, it feels like that sorting of funding should be directed towards bolstering their ranks in order to try and have a better second half of the season.

Because, if things stay as they are, it’s hard to see how it’ll get any better in Glasgow. But Koppen might have the time now to pull off a transfer masterstroke in the final few days after this window.
