Gordon Dalziel stunned as Si Ferry moots ‘surprise’ Rangers transfer news

Gordon Dalziel was shocked by the idea of Chelsea being interested in Rangers full-back Jefte after Si Ferry brought up the transfer rumour.

According to The Scottish Sun [27 January], the Gers are bracing themselves for a bid from the Premier League giants, though Philippe Clement believes it is too early for Jefte to exit Ibrox.

The 21-year-old has been playing in Light Blue for just a few months, having arrived last summer, and only has 35 appearances to his name, but Chelsea are still being linked with the defender.

Speaking via the Open Goal podcast [30 January], Ferry asked: “Is Jefte going to go to Chelsea?

Dalziel replied: “What a shout that is. He has been the most surprise package for me, we’ll throw that in the mix. Going forward, he’s different class.

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s been negative with the defensive side but Jefte? Chelsea? What a shout.”

Rangers to already sell Jefte to Chelsea?

News of Jefte’s possible move to Chelsea certainly came as a surprise but given his intelligent performances and the free-flowing football at Stamford Bridge, he would fit in.

The Brazilian has a keen eye for an assist, which he has proven during his short time at Ibrox so far, and it would be an eye-watering payday for the Light Blues, who are struggling financially.

Patrick Stewart desperately needs to address the club’s current player transfer model, with the Gers really unable to make any profit on the players they have purchased in recent seasons.

Cyriel Dessers is the perfect example of that, with the Light Blues struggling to offload him for any more than the figure they signed him from Cremonense for in July 2023.

It would be a tough transfer to take for the supporters, given how quickly he has become a favourite at Ibrox, but the potential price tag could be too much to turn down now or in the summer.

In other Rangers news, Ally McCoist predicted the Union St Gilloise manager to be “absolutely livid” after what happened at Ibrox.
