Rabbi Matondo reaches verbal agreement to quit Rangers – Sky Sports journalist
Rabbi Matondo is on the verge of leaving Rangers, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
Writing via his personal X account on Thursday afternoon (30 January), Plettenberg reported that Rangers are in the “final stages” of negotiations with Hannover 96 to sign Matondo on a half-season loan basis, which includes an option-to-buy clause.
It is understood that the 2. Bundesliga club has already reached a “verbal agreement” with the 24-year-old Wales winger, who looks set to head to the German second tier on a loan-to-buy basis.
Matondo exit frees up vital funds for Rangers
It sure seems as though Matondo is finished as a Rangers player.
Although he’s reportedly joining Hannover on loan with an option for them to sign the winger permanently, his lack of game time at Ibrox, poor form, injury issues and the possibility of a full-time deal in Germany suggests he won’t be seen in the famous light blue jersey again.
As per BILD earlier on Thursday, Matondo has actually been photographed in a hotel near to the Hannover stadium.
It would take something like a failed medical or a major U-turn for his deal to collapse now.

Once that deal is finalised, it will hopefully open up some funds for Philippe Clement to dip his toes into the transfer market before the winter window shuts next Monday (3 February).
It’s been a fairly quiet month in Govan with only Rafael Fernandes arriving on loan from Lille.
Going the opposite way, Matondo looks like he’ll soon join Kieran Dowell and Alex Lowry in leaving Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, this ex-Tottenham man has agreed to join the Gers.
