Rabbi Matondo lined up for shock Rangers exit as scouts blown away

Ajax are in a shock pursuit of Rangers winger Rabbi Matondo, according to De Telegraaf.

The Dutch outlet reported via their website (30 January) that Ajax’s scouts are blown away by the Wales international, who’s struggled for game-time at Ibrox this season.

The report adds that other moves for players such as Carlos Forbs and Ansu Fati are also being looked into by the Dutch outfit.

Rangers need to get rid of Rabbi Matondo

Matondo hasn’t had the best of luck when it comes to injuries during his time at Ibrox.

The 2024/25 season has been no different either as the Welshman has missed most of the campaign due to injury.

Since the winter transfer window opened, the Gers were seemingly looking to offload Matondo and Kieran Dowell and with the latter now taken care of, it’s time for Rangers and Philippe Clement to find the former Schalke man a new home, especially if they want to add to their ranks.

While it’s clear that Rangers needs to add a fair few players to their squad in order to improve their chances of doing well in the Scottish Cup and Europa League, without the sale of one or two more players, it feels highly unlikely that any new faces will be brought in.

Nobody knows how the final days of the transfer window will pan out for the Gers but unless some exits are sanctioned, there’s likely to be little change.

In other Rangers news, a Premier League side are said to be “one step” away from signing a Gers favourite.
