Rabbi Matondo exit: Rangers chiefs keen to agree transfer now

Rangers chiefs are keen to agree a deal for Rabbi Matondo to leave Ibrox and join Hannover, according to Record Sport.

The newspaper reports in its live blog (30 January, 14:42) that the Gers are seeking to free up wages ahead of the 3 February deadline by offloading the 24-year-old.

It states that the Welshman was spotted in talks with Hannover sporting director Marcus Mann near the Heinz von Heiden Arena today.

The Light Blues are hoping to sort the final details for a six-month loan deal with an option-to-buy.

Rangers set to offload Rabbi Matondo?

The Welsh winger has endured a difficult stint with the Govan club since joining in a £2.5million deal from Schalke in 2022.

He has managed just eight goals in 67 appearances in a two-and-a-half-year stay in Glasgow, an underwhelming return considering the hype around him.

If the Gers can get Matondo’s wages off the books, they will hope to reinvest in the squad before Monday’s deadline and reinforce Philippe Clement’s squad.

The only deal that the Ibrox club have completed so far is a loan move for Portuguese defender Rafael Fernandes from Lille.

Their Scottish Premiership campaign has been reduced to damage limitation as they are ten points behind Celtic, who have a game in hand after their clash with Dundee was postponed last Saturday (25 January).

Therefore, the Gers should focus on bringing in long-term signings rather than temporary deals in the last few days of the winter transfer window.

In other Rangers news, the Govan club are reportedly eyeing a loan for an ex-Liverpool midfielder.
