Alan Brazil aims Rangers jibe at Ally McCoist after what’s been said about Ibrox

Rangers were the subject of another Alan Brazil dig as he sarcastically joked about what they’d need most at a redeveloped Ibrox.

Speaking on talkSPORT (29 January, 8:56am), Brazil and Ally McCoist discussed the prospect of Ibrox undergoing a “massive refurbishment”; the latter acknowledging that the stadium is in need of one.

Redevelopments to the Copland Road Stand were carried out last summer, but after Gers were dethroned as the country’s most successful club by arch-rivals Celtic, Brazil couldn’t resist a dig.

He said: “Talking about refurbishing, Rangers could do with a massive refurbishment.”

“Absolutely, 100 per cent”, McCoist agreed, “I’ve got to say, Ibrox needs a coat of paint, and a little bit of love.”

Brazil added: “It needs more than that! A new trophy room?”

Ibrox redevelopments a distant priority for Rangers

Although refurbishing Ibrox would certainly make Govan a much more attractive proposition for potential signings and even new investors, there’s a lengthy to-do list of more pressing priorities in Glasgow.

The Gers have been nothing short of a mess both on and off the field in recent years, and despite new appointments in the boardroom, calls for wholesale changes from the fanbase have not subsided.

Given the chaos caused by their handling of the Copland Road Stand debacle last summer, which led to Philippe Clement’s side starting their campaign across the city at Hampden Park, that’s no surprise.

Delays to the shipment of materials needed for the rebuilding can’t be placed on the board’s shoulders, but their flip-flopping between Hampden and Murrayfield throughout the summer certainly can.

Ibrox will need to be given its facelift one day soon, but until the boardroom, coaching and playing staff are all aligned and truly challenging for silverware once again, those developments will have to wait.
