Rangers tipped to agree big-money sale after ‘fascinating’ Ibrox transfer news
Keith Jackson believes Rangers would agree to sell Jefte to Chelsea if a bid comes in.
The Premier League outfit are said to be leading the race to sign the 21-year-old who has been subject to winter interest so far this month [Chris Jack].
The Gers are yet to receive a bid from Stamford Bridge for the Brazilian but speaking on the Record Sport’s Hotline Live Show on 28 January, Jackson suggested a sale could be on the cards if an offer is made.
He said: “Jefte’s done fine. He’s not a bad signing at all, he’s played a lot of games, there are moments where he’s flakey defensively but he’s made a decent impact.
“I’d be astonished if a Chelsea was ready to come in and break the bank for him at this point, but it is interesting. Clearly, moves are afoot. It’s a strange one that Chelsea haven’t spoken directly to Rangers but the agent is obviously making himself quite busy so it’s certainly one to keep an eye on.
“It will be fascinating to see if something solid comes out of that over the next few days. What do Rangers do about it? I imagine if they can turn a quick profit on him, they probably would.”
Rangers tipped to accept Chelsea bid for Jefte
The left-back only signed for the Light Blues in the summer but has made a positive impression in the Scottish Premiership so far.
The defender has adapted to football in Govan quickly despite joining from the Brazilian Serie A after spending last season in Cyprus.
Now Jefte could be on the move once again as Chelsea eye a move to bring the former Fluminese man to West London in the January window.
This would come as a surprise given his lack of experience at the top level as Enzo Maresca’s side eyes a return to Champions League football for next season.
Given that the left-back signed for the Gers in the summer on a four-year deal [BBC Sport] there is no doubt that Philippe Clement and Co. can demand a high fee.
This could then be reinvested in the squad at Ibrox which could ultimately prove to be a smart piece of business in Govan, which has been a rare thing to say in recent years.
