Michael Stewart slams Cyriel Dessers in Rangers transfer rant

Michael Stewart believes that Cyriel Dessers is not good enough and must be sold by Rangers in this transfer window.

Speaking on Premier Sports’ Scottish Football Social Club, Stewart believes that Gers have a good chance to sell him now after his hat-trick in the cup, his goal against Manchester United and against Dundee United over the weekend.

Cagliari are keen on the Nigeria international and are understood to be willing to step up their attempts to secure his services. [Complete Sports, 24 January]

Stewart said at 29:43 on 27 January: “Cyriel Dessers, if I was Rangers, I’d be over the moon with what’s happened in the last couple of games and just hoping, making it easier to facilitate a move out. He’s scored two great goals. His numbers are not bad.

“Let’s be honest, he’s not good enough. Colak for me was a better all-round striker than Dessers. Get Dessers out of the door because he’ll be on a big pack of money, you might be able to recoup some money but I’d be looking at those last two games and going ‘Brilliant’.

“Don’t be fooled into thinking there might be a player in there. We’ve seen enough.”

Rangers must cash in on Cyriel Dessers as soon as possible

Stewart is right and this is a golden chance for Gers.

They must take advantage of his good form and do everything they can to get him out of the door as soon as possible.

There are multiple clubs keen on signing him and it’s time for them to give each one of those sides an ultimatum.

The transfer window shuts in a few days and there’s no concrete offer on the table yet for the 30-year-old.

It’s also important that the club work on a deal to bring in a striker to replace Dessers as Danilo is struggling with some fitness issues.

Retaining Hamza Igamane is also imperative but it’s evident that the Nigeria international is done for at Ibrox.

Even Philippe Clement is non-commital whenever he’s asked about Dessers and that’s a good indicator that he wants him out as well.

In other Rangers news, a player who told his agents he wanted to leave may now end up staying at Ibrox beyond the summer.
