Lawrence Shankland transfer: Rangers told to sanction ‘no-brainer’ deal

Rangers shouldn’t think twice about signing Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland on a free transfer, Barry Ferguson says.

The ex-Gers captain believes it would be a “no-brainer” for the Light Blues to sign the Scotland international once his contract expires at the end of the season.

While Ferguson doesn’t expect the 29-year-old to have a massive impact, he would be a quality addition for the Glaswegian outfit.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show [28 January], the former midfielder said: “If you’re getting him on a free transfer, it’s a no-brainer.

“I’m not saying he’s going to come in and score a barrel of goals and be amazing. But if you’re getting a player of that quality on a freebie, you’ve got to take him.”

Lawrence Shankland transfer to boost Rangers prospects

Hamza Igamane has rightly stamped his place as the number-one striker at the Bears after some sensational performances recently, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see top teams sign him in the coming future.

As a result, Cyriel Dessers has fallen down the pecking order, leading to speculation about the Nigerian centre-forward’s future.

Philippe Clement also has Danilo at his disposal, but the Brazilian ace has struggled with consistent fitness issues at the Gers.

If Rangers lose one of their number nines, they will obviously need to bolster their attack in the upcoming transfer window.

Shankland would evidently be a sensible option for the Light Blues as he wouldn’t cost anything in transfer fees and has immense experience in the Scottish Premiership.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the strikers at Ibrox, and indeed whether the Glaswegian outfit will concretely be in the race to sign the 29-year-old.
