Jefte to Chelsea: Rangers ‘surprise’ emerges after latest transfer news
Jefte joining Chelsea from Rangers in the winter transfer window would be surprising, Barry Ferguson says.
The ex-Gers captain would be amazed to see the 21-year-old left-back leave Ibrox amid links to the Premier League outfit [Chris Jack].
Ferguson thinks the Brazilian defender still needs to improve and isn’t ready to play for the Blues just yet.
Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show [27 January], the 46-year-old said: “I’d be surprised if [a move to Chelsea is] the case.
“[Jefte] has had a good start to his Rangers career. I still think there’s a lot of improvement to come from him. Going forward, I’ve been really impressed by him. Defensively, he has to work at it.”
Rangers to sanction Jefte transfer to Chelsea for right price
While Jefte has been one of the key players under Philippe Clement this season, it would make sense for the Bears to sanction his exit for the right price.
Chelsea are one of the biggest teams in England, as well as being two-time Champions League winners, and the Glaswegian outfit would evidently have a hard time convincing the Brazilian ace to stay if a concrete offer is made.
It wouldn’t be ideal for the Light Blues to lose their first-choice left-back midway through the season, but they should consider his sale for a hefty profit.
Rangers should then get the next big potential superstar to fill the void in their defence and start the development process all over again.

In the meantime, the Gers have Ridvan Yilmaz in their ranks, who has also shown his quality in recent matches.
Some might say the Bears need to keep their best players to compete with Celtic, but they also need to be financially stable.
The Jefte saga will clearly be one to keep an eye on for the Ibrox faithful.
