Chelsea now lead race for Jefte as Rangers exit twist emerges

Chelsea are leading the race to sign Rangers defender Jefte in the summer, according to Chris Jack.

The Rangers Review journalist reported on 27 January that Gers are braced for interest in the 21-year-old in the summer.

They are aware of a handful of clubs in Europe keen on signing him and Chelsea have already made an initial approach.

Rangers may find it hard to retain the services of Jefte amid interest from Chelsea

If Chelsea decide to bid for Jefte in the coming months and initiate formal talks, Gers are likely to face significant challenges in retaining his services.

Their financial muscle and reputation as one of the Premier League’s elite clubs make them an attractive destination for any young player looking to advance their career.

Jefte, at 21, would be tempted by the opportunity to play in arguably the world’s top league, where he could gain exposure, compete at a higher level and potentially win major trophies.

Moreover, Chelsea’s interest often signifies a serious intent, backed by their ability to offer substantial transfer fees and lucrative contracts, which could be hard for the Ibrox outift to match.

With Rangers aware of interest from various European clubs, the competitive nature of the transfer market means that if Chelsea push forward with a concrete offer, Gers might find themselves in a position where they have to consider selling the Brazilian.

His agent will be aware of interest from the London club and in case he wants the move, talks may begin soon.

In other Rangers news, the club are now set to reach a three-year agreement with an exit-linked player.
