Tom Lawrence exit twist: Rangers ready quick-fire sale as transfer race heats up
Tom Lawrence is expected to leave Rangers before the winter transfer window closes, according to Darren Witcoop.
The journalist reported via X (27 January) that several clubs in England and abroad have enquired about the former Manchester United talent’s availability.
Lawrence, who has an injury-hit season with the Glasgow giants, is also in the final six months of his contract at Ibrox.
Rangers to offload Tom Lawrence
Tom Lawrence pockets £22,000 every week at Rangers, according to IbroxNoise (18 June 2024).
With the midfielder likely to leave the Light Blues when his contract runs out in the summer, there is no reason why they should consider selling him for a cut-price deal this window.
The Gers could pocket a minimal transfer fee while also getting his wages off their books if they sanction his exit now.
Lawrence does not appear to have a significant place in Philippe Clement’s plans for the season anyway, having featured only eight times in the Premiership, although injuries are also partly to blame.
Witcoop, though, did not reveal the names of the clubs interested in acquiring the 31-year-old’s services.
Lawrence has a significant amount of experience playing in the Championship, having spent time at clubs including Blackburn Rovers, Derby County and Ipswich Town.
It remains to be seen if a return to one of those clubs is an option for the Wales international.
Apart from Lawrence, Cyriel Dessers and Rabbi Matondo are also expected to leave Rangers before the transfer window closes next Monday (3 February).
It is unclear if Clement’s side intend to make any signings of their own, however.
