Rangers transfers: ‘Best’ deal takes place as another player leaves Ibrox
David Edgar believes that Rangers midfielder Kieran Dowell joining Birmingham City on loan is the best deal for everyone.
Gers announced on 27 January that the 27-year-old had moved south of the border until the end of the season.
Along with Cole McKinnon and Robbie Fraser, Dowell becomes the third player to be loaned out in this transfer window.

Rangers would have preferred a permanent sale of Kieran Dowell
A permanent sale of Dowell would have been more advantageous for Gers financially, as it would have provided immediate funds that could be reinvested into the squad.
However, considering the Englishman still has another year left on his contract after this season, retaining him on loan to Birmingham might be strategically beneficial for the Ibrox outfit.
This arrangement allows Dowell to gain regular playing time, potentially enhancing his performance and market value.
By the end of the loan period, if the Englishman performs well, his increased visibility and form could attract better offers from clubs willing to pay a higher transfer fee.
This scenario would enable Rangers to ‘cash in’ on Dowell in the summer transfer window, potentially securing a more lucrative deal than what might have been possible now.
Thus, while a sale might have been ideal, the loan move keeps the door open for a future profitable transaction.
