Rangers monitor Emmanuel Dennis as Nottingham Forest exit update emerges

Rangers are monitoring the situation of Nottingham Forest fringe player Emmanuel Dennis, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported [26 January] that the Premier League high-flyers are attempting to get his £4million-a-year salary off the books after being frozen out by Nuno Espirito Santo at The City Ground.

While there are still 18 months left on Dennis’ current contract, he is likely to leave before the window slams shut on 3 February, with the Gers joining a handful of Championship clubs in the transfer race.

It is understood that Forest are open to a loan spell or a permanent move, though Watford and Sheffield Wednesday are struggling to meet transfer demands.

Rangers to seal deal for Emmanuel Dennis?

Purely because of Dennis’ current wages at The City Ground, it seems incredibly unlikely that Philippe Clement will be adding the 27-year-old forward to his ranks.

The Nigerian has struggled immensely since his £10million move to Forest, having been sent out on loan to Basaksehir and Watford over the last two seasons.

With 10 goals and six assists during the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, it is easy to see why Forest splashed out so much for signature in August 2022, but the move has certainly not worked out.

The Light Blues, on the other hand, have a striker in Cyriel Dessers, who has notched 40 goals in 89 appearances, but the 30-year-old is being heavily linked with a move away before 3 February.

With Hamza Igamane now the first-choice centre-forward at Ibrox, the Gers need a new player who is happy to play back-up to the in-form 22-year-old.

Although the window closes in just six days, a desperate move for Dennis should not be the answer due to his eye-watering wages. Even if he were to take a pay cut, the move does not seem worth it.
