Rangers Exclusive: Mohamed Diomande appeal verdict emerges – Expert

Rangers should appeal the red card given to Mohamed Diomande against Dundee United on Sunday, Keith Hackett has said.

The Ivorian scored the equaliser in the 3-1 win at Tannadice on 26 January, but Nick Walsh stuck with his decision to send him off for an alleged slap, despite a VAR review.

Philippe Clement labelled the decision as “incredible” before confirming it would be appealed with Hackett sharing the lack of force as the basis for that.

Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, the ex-FIFA referee shared an insight into the rule book and what could be used in their defence.

A lot depends on what is contained in the referee’s report,” Hackett said.

“Violent conduct is when a player uses or attempts to use excessive force or brutality against an opponent when not challenging for the ball, or against a team-mate, team official, match official, spectator or any other person, regardless of whether contact is made.

“In addition, a player who, when not challenging for the ball, deliberately strikes an opponent or any other person on the head or face with the hand or arm, is guilty of violent conduct unless the force used was negligible.

“For me, there was no force and therefore Rangers should appeal on that basis.”

It was a massive win for Clement and the Bears, putting their away hoodoo behind them at Tannadice.

Walsh has been called out for his decision, and he will be central to this appeal, it seems.

Off the pitch, the Gers have gut the gap back down to 10 points behind Celtic after their clash against Dundee was postponed on 25 January.
