Rabbi Matondo exit: Rangers in talks over new transfer after Coventry City twist
Rangers remain in talks with multiple clubs over Rabbi Matondo’s transfer, according to Rangers Review.
The outlet reported via their website on 27 January that the 24-year-old is continuing to attract “strong interest” in the Championship despite negotiations with Coventry City stalling.
He is, therefore, expected to be on his way out of Ibrox before the winter transfer window closes on 3 February as the Light Blues look to take his wages off their books and make a pathway for younger players.
Rabbi Matondo out of favour under Philippe Clement at Rangers
Matondo arrived at Ibrox in 2022 as a player with experience playing for Manchester City’s academy and Schalke in Germany.
However, the Liverpool-born winger quickly fell out of favour in Govan, with Philippe Clement only using him six times in the Scottish Premiership this season.
Therefore, it makes sense for Rangers to offload Matondo before the window slams shut in the first week of February.
Not only is he earning significantly higher wages than younger players at the club, he is also blocking their pathway to the first team.
Frank Lampard convinced Matondo to join him at Coventry before talks over a deal broke down, meaning the Gers have to find new buyers for him [Sky Sports].

It appears several clubs are still interested in acquiring the winger’s services for the second half of the season and it remains to be seen if Rangers can strike a deal soon.
Cyriel Dessers could also join him in putting an end to his association with the Glasgow giants this window.
In other Rangers news, one club are putting all their attention on signing this Gers star before the deadline on 3 February.
