Mohamed Diomande controversy: Dermot Gallagher reacts to Rangers incident
Rangers star Mohamed Diomande should not have been sent off against Dundee United on Sunday, according to Dermot Gallagher.
The midfielder scored the equaliser in the first half on 26 January but was dismissed in the dying embers of the 3-1 victory at Tannadice Park by Nick Walsh for an alleged slap.
Former FIFA referee Keith Hackett exclusively told Ibrox News that the Bears should appeal the decision due to a lack of force.
Speaking on Sky Sports News (27 January, 11:25 am), Gallagher said: “I was surprised a red card came out and even more surprised when Nick was sent to the screen that he stuck with his decision.
“He gets pushed twice and raises his arms, does he connect with his face? Does he mean to connect with his face?
“The other thing to remember in law is it brutal or malicious, well I would say it doesn’t come into either.”
Rangers set to fail in Diomande appeal?
Despite the agreement from Hackett and Gallagher over the decision, it seems that Philippe Clement’s side could be set to fail in their appeal.
Daily Record journalist Danel Caw revealed that former referee Des Roache told him that the chances of the red card being overturned are “extremely slim”.
If the suspension is not revoked then the Light Blues will be furious and have every right to be given there was not much in the incident at all.

The Ivorian will be a huge miss for the Premiership clash with Ross County (2 February) and the Scottish Cup clash with Queen’s Park (9 February) if the two-match ban is upheld.
The Gers closed to gap on Celtic to 10 points after the Hoops match with Dundee was postponed due to Storm Eowyn with the victory but it was soured by the sending-off.
In other Rangers news, Cyriel Dessers could be set to leave Ibrox after he was identified as the chosen one for a new transfer.
