Michael Stewart enraged at Rangers controversy – ‘Embarrassing’
Michael Stewart has savaged Nick Walsh for his decision to send off Mohamed Diomande as Rangers beat Dundee United on Sunday.
Gers picked up the three points away from home on 26 January but all everyone was talking about in the aftermath of the contest was Diomande’s red card.
The decision has been appealed by the club and a verdict is expected to arrive on Tuesday, 28 January.
Alan Hutton told Premier Sports: “I thought it was embarrassing if I’m totally honest. It’s laughable, I mean if I was sent off for that. He gets asked to go and have another look at it in the monitor and still doubles down on it.”
Stewart then responded at 24:01: “Exactly as Alan says. It’s embarrassing. It’s actually embarrassing. I’m not even sure if he touches him. It’s so ludicrous. What makes it worse is that Nick Walsh has gone over and stuck with the decision and you’re just like ‘Oh my God’. It will be appealed. It will be rescinded and Nick Walsh will be embarrassed. Simple as that.”
Rangers have to win the appeal for Mohamed Diomande’s ridiculous red card
It was a shocking call to send off Diomande and despite watching it multiple times, Walsh stuck to his guns.
Even someone like Stewart who’s known to be anti-Rangers at each opportunity he gets, failed to side with the referee on that one.
It was clear why the VAR sent Walsh to the monitors as they thought he had made a clear blunder.
Initially, many were surprised as to who the red card was actually given to as it did not look anything close to being one in real time.
Hopefully, saner minds are deciding the appeal in the SFA and they should come out and say that the referee got this one wrong.
It’s good that it did not influence the result of the game or else there would’ve been serious fury among the Gers hierarchy.
In other Rangers news, the club are now set to reach a three-year agreement with an exit-linked player.
