Ianis Hagi transfer: New Rangers contract unlikely with immediate exit wanted
Genoa want to sign Rangers star Ianis Hagi before the end of the winter transfer window, according to Calcio Genoa.
The news outlet reports (27 January) that the Gers have no intention of extending the Romanian playmaker’s contract, and he will be a free agent in the summer.
While the 26-year-old is planning a move to the Serie A outfit at the end of the season, Dan Sucu, the Italian club’s president, wants to buy him before 3 February.
Ianis Hagi transfer from Rangers unlikely before deadline
Given Hagi’s importance to the team, it seems unlikely that the Light Blues will sanction his departure in the winter window.
The Romania international emerged as a key player for Philippe Clement in recent months as there has been a sharp turn in fortunes at Ibrox.
At the start of the season, the 26-year-old was made to train with the academy players and was out of the Belgian manager’s plans.
The midfielder has managed to make an impact on his return to the senior squad, cementing his place in the starting line-up.
Rangers seemingly can’t afford to sell Hagi as they look to end the campaign on a high note with at least the Scottish Cup to their name.

The Glaswegian outfit arguably have the best chance of lifting silverware with the Romanian ace in their team, and it wouldn’t be sensible to part ways with him in the winter window.
While the Gers risk losing the midfielder for free in the coming months, they should consider his departure only if Genoa make an offer that can’t be refused.
Either way, this seems to be a very strange decision.
