Dundee United v Rangers: ‘Blatant cheating’ in game branded a ‘Disgrace’

David Edgar has fumed at the decision made by Nick Walsh as Rangers beat Dundee United 3-1 on Sunday.

Mohamed Diomande was sent off for reasons that baffled many, including Philippe Clement, in the aftermath of the game.

The Belgian admits that the club will appeal the decision and that they expect to win it.

Via X, the Heart and Hand podcast host wrote: “That is genuinely a disgrace. Diomande kicked all over the park to no punishment but gets sent off and suspended for that? Club better appeal that and I hope Clement goes absolutely through Walsh.

“That’s just blatant cheating.”

Rangers have every right to be fuming after this shambles

Even those who might not support Gers would struggle to justify the red card decision made by Walsh against Diomande.

The sending off came in stoppage time for what seemed like a minor infringement after the midfielder had been subjected to rough treatment throughout the game without adequate protection from the officials.

Clement’s clear bafflement and the club’s decision to appeal speak volumes about the perceived injustice.

Edgar’s comments, calling it “blatant cheating,” further underline the sense of frustration, not just among Rangers fans but potentially among neutral observers who value fair play.

This incident highlights a broader issue in football where refereeing decisions can significantly alter the outcome of games and potentially seasons.

The lack of consistency in how fouls are categorised, especially in high-pressure matches, points to the need for enhanced referee training, better use of VAR and perhaps a review of how disciplinary actions are managed to ensure fairness across the board.
