Cyriel Dessers called out after what he did for Rangers v Dundee United

Willie Miller called out Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers for his lack of movement in their clash with Dudnee United on Sunday.

Having scored what many thought was the point-earning goal at Old Trafford, Dessers was handed a starting role for Rangers in the 3-1 win at Tannadice on 26 January, scoring the third.

However, the forward was slammed by Miller for his lack of movement in the box after Ianis Hagi carved out an opportunity in the first half leaving the pundit in disbelief.

Speaking via BBC Sportsound [26 January, 12:47 pm], Miller said: “I can’t understand why Dessers is planted.

“Both feet on the ground, you see Hagi taking on Middleton, now Middleton is not a good defender, so the expectation surely is that it’s coming in. Get on your toes, get on the move, make that darting move towards the near post.”

Cyrier Dessers is a frustrating player at Rangers

Dessers’ goal against Manchester United showcased the level of ability possessed by the forward but a severe lack of consistency is the main cause for frustration.

His lack of movement in the box often sees excellent chances go a miss and when Hamza Igamane is on the pitch, those chances are usually taken and it makes it obvious as to why he is preferred.

Having that striker capable of getting into the right places is crucial for any side in any circumstance but even more so for Rangers when they struggle to find consistency in their performances from week to week.

With that said, his finish for Rangers’ third of the game was fantastic and again just showcases the finishing ability he has.

With the score level at 1-1 at the time of the chance, Rangers need to be able to take advantage of such situations but Dessers has failed to do so on far too many times this campaign.

It is evident why Igamane is the first-choice forward at Ibrox and if Dessers can take a page out of his book, his fortunes could very well change.
