Rangers impacted by Storm Eowyn as injury update emerges for Dundee United game

Philippe Clement has opened up on how Storm Eowyn has impacted Rangers ahead of their clash with Dundee United.

The Gers’ clash at Tannadice Park on Sunday (26 January) is still due to go ahead, despite the latest Met Office update.

However, with players unable to get out and about on Friday (24 January), Vaclav Cerny, Leon Balogun and Connor Barron – each injured against Manchester United – remain doubts until they can undergo scans.

Speaking live on Sky Sports News [25 January, 10:23am], Clement said: “Yesterday there were plans to train here at the building, but the storm was too dangerous.

“There were cars smashed on the road here so it was too dangerous. It was also not possible for players to go to hospital for scans, so we have yet to make an assessment on them.

“It’s disruptive for sure, but you can only control the things you can control. This is out of the control of everybody, so we will make a decision later today or tomorrow.”

Rangers can capitalise on Celtic postponement

Celtic’s match with Dundee on Saturday (25 January) has fallen foul of the bad weather conditions, giving Rangers – assuming their game at Dundee United goes ahead – a chance to capitalise.

In truth, the 13-point gap on the leaders is pretty much insurmountable at this stage, barring the biggest collapse of all time from Celtic.

Still, to reduce that to 10 points will give supporters just a glimmer of hope for now, albeit Celtic will have that game in hand to play.

As for the Gers, Clement will be eager to have Barron, Balogun and Cerny back available for selection this weekend.

Given the disruption caused by the storm, a late decision will now have to be made on each of those ahead of the match at Tannadice.

For now, supporters will just be hoping the match goes ahead. And if it does, the players selected quite simply have to step up on the basis of recent away domestic performances.
