Rangers could face Ibrox repair hold-up as race on for Union Saint-Galloise game
Rangers will be working hard to repair damage done to Ibrox but a struggle to gain access to special materials or the need for an insurance claim could cause a hold-up, Keith Hackett has said.
The Daily Record reported (24 January) how parts of the Bill Struth Main Stand roof were hanging off as a result of the 100mph winds during Storm Eowyn.
Thankfully, the Gers are away in the Scottish Premiership this weekend as they are scheduled to play Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday (26 January).
But the Gers are set to welcome Union Saint-Galloise in their final Europa League league-phase game on Thursday (30 January), meaning the race to make repairs is on.
Former FIFA referee and ex-PGMOL chief Hackett, speaking exclusively to Ibrox News, says safety checks are always taking place but spoke about what could potentially cause a hold-up.
“They will want to carry the repairs out before the next home game. Remember that stadium safety inspections do take place on a regular basis,” he said.
“It usually involves the local fire brigade and local authority, who are responsible for passing the Ground Safety Certificate.
“They will be working hard to get over this problem. One of the hold-ups could be the availability of any special materials and if it involves an insurance claim.”
Rangers to repair Ibrox damages
Scotland has been absolutely battered by the adverse weather caused by Storm Eowyn and unfortunately Ibrox took some punishment too.
The good news is there is time to do the repairs and carry out safety checks before Thursday’s game but the timing is obviously far from ideal.

Had Rangers been playing at home in the league this weekend then who knows if they would have been able to get the game on, because ultimately the safety of supporters is always the biggest priority.
Hopefully, Rangers can get the work done they need to in a timely manner.
