Rangers claim emerges post £2.5m Lennon Miller bid

Derek Ferguson is unable to understand why Rangers have not yet made a move for Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller.

Rangers Review reported on 24 January that the SPFL outfit had rejected a £2.5million bid from Udinese as they want £4million for the 18-year-old.

It’s understood that rivals Celtic are also keen on securing Miller’s services.

Speaking on Open Goal, Ferguson said: “Aye, but there are different ways to structure this – with sell-on clauses and with appearances.

“See if it was £2.5million and then based on how many games he plays that Motherwell gets more – sometimes with sell-on clauses he goes and they make the money again.

“I’ve been watching him for a couple of years. His talent is clear to see. Why are (Rangers) not going to get him? It’s worked out great that he has progressed.”

Rangers cannot afford Lennon Miller’s services at that valuation

Miller has emerged as a standout talent in the Premiership, showcasing remarkable skills and maturity for his age at Motherwell.

However, Gers’ financial limitations make signing him a challenging proposition.

Motherwell are holding out for a £4million transfer fee, a figure beyond Rangers’ current budget, especially after posting a £17million operating loss.

Despite suggestions from Ferguson on structuring the deal with performance-based payments or sell-on clauses, the club’s financial situation suggests they must prioritise fiscal prudence over risky investments.

With Rangers needing to focus on sustainable growth, they would be better served by targeting more cost-effective signings or developmental players who could offer future value without the immediate high cost.

While Miller’s potential is undeniable, and his acquisition could be a strategic move for Gers’ future, the current economic constraints dictate a more cautious approach to their transfer strategy.
