Rangers called out for what they did to duo despite what Ferguson said earlier

Rangers have been called out for not giving more chances to Findlay Curtis and Bailey Rice by Andy Walker.

The former Celtic striker was impressed by the teenage duo’s performances in the Gers’ 2-1 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday (23 January) and cannot believe they have not featured more often.

He recalled Barry Ferguson talking about the likes of Curtis and Rice at the start of the season, and hit out the Glasgow giants, who he feels have been “pretty average” this season, for not giving them more opportunities.

“When you see guys like Findlay Curtis and Bailey Rice, I can’t believe these players haven’t been given a chance before now”, Walker said on The Go Radio Football Show (24 January).

“I remember listening to Barry Ferguson at the start of the season talking about players like that, who should have been given a chance.

“We’re getting near to the end of January and it’s the first time I’ve seen them, I’m sure Rangers supporters have seen a lot more of them in other games.

“But, I think these players deserve more game time just to see what they can do because Rangers this season have been pretty average.”

Findlay Curtis and Bailey Rice to play more often for Rangers?

Philippe Clement found himself in a tough spot as he was forced to take off Leon Balogun and Vaclav Cerny at half-time and at the hour respectively, that too at Old Trafford of all places.

However, stepping in for the experienced first-teamers were Rice and Curtis, who both held their own against the Premier League giants.

Although the teenage pair has not featured often for Clement’s side, the substitute appearances against United were not their debuts for Rangers.

Rice made his first appearance for the Light Blues at the age of 16, featuring in a 3-0 Scottish Premiership win against Livingston on 18 February 2023.

Curtis’ debut came more recently as he came on as a substitute in the 5-0 Scottish Cup victory over Fraserburgh last Sunday (19 January).

While Clement may be reluctant to throw them into his starting line-up straightaway, their performances against the Red Devils are likely to guarantee them more opportunities in the coming weeks.
