Rangers transfer news: Major development emerges on Nikola Katic return

Milos Malenovic has refused to rule out a move away for Nikola Katic amid links to Rangers.

As quoted by the Daily Record on 24 January, when the FC Zurich sporting director was asked specifically about the 28-year-old, he admitted that there were several players thinking about a transfer.

It has been reported by the Daily Record on 7 January that the Bosnia and Herzegovina international is keen on returning to Ibrox.

Malenovic said: “We have several players who are still thinking about a transfer. These guys are not all gone yet. What is next depends on who else leaves us. But even if we stay as a whole, we want to strengthen ourselves.”

Rangers may not want to sign two defenders in one window

Malenovic’s statement about several players at Zurich contemplating a transfer indirectly suggests that Katic is among those considering a move away from the club.

By mentioning that there are players still thinking about transfers and that the club’s strategy depends on outgoing players, he is subtly implying Katic’s situation, especially given the context of previous reports highlighting Katic’s interest in returning to Ibrox.

However, despite these hints, Gers’ recent activity in the transfer market diminishes the likelihood of them pursuing Katic.

Rangers have already secured the services of a new centre-back during this window in Rafael Fernandes, which suggests their defensive needs are addressed.

Adding another centre-back like the 28-year-old might not align with their current squad planning or budget considerations, especially with the transfer window nearing its close, making a move for Katic less probable for the club, at this stage.

In other Rangers news, an update has emerged on Joe Aribo sealing a shocking return to Ibrox in the coming days.
