Rangers now want to sell Ridvan Yilmaz, shock transfer meeting held

Rangers are willing to sell Ridvan Yilmaz in the current transfer window with Besiktas holding a meeting over his potential signing, according to Mustafa Korkusuz.

The TRT Spor journalist, based in Turkiye, revealed (24 January) that discussions have been held over a potential switch for the left-back who could join up with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side before the transfer deadline.

Deals regarding players moving to Turkish clubs can be completed up until 11 February, giving all parties longer to make the switch happen, potentially recouping a tidy sum at Ibrox.

Yilmaz started in an advanced role on the left-hand side for Philippe Clement’s Gers at Manchester United on Thursday night in the Europa League (23 January).

“Beşiktaş will definitely make the left-back transfer. Rıdvan Yılmaz is on Beşiktaş’s agenda,” Korkusuz said, as quoted on X (24 January) by 1903 Digitale.

“A meeting was held. Rangers wants to sell him for a transfer fee.”

Rangers open to selling Yilmaz to Besiktas

Rangers are still working hard during the current window to get deals in place for important arrivals, with only Rafael Fernandes from Lille having so far arrived this month on loan with a deadline of 3 February.

Departures will also need to happen, and three Gers stars have already left Ibrox with Alex Lowry joining Wycombe Wanderers and the double loan exit of Cole McKinnon and Robbie Fraser.

Yilmaz’s contract runs until the summer of 2027, and Rangers’ board clearly see now as an opportunistic time to cash in on the 23-year-old, who has regularly started of late.

To his credit, the full-back has stepped up well to play so many minutes after recovering from a three-month thigh injury lay-off, but some Gers fans have grown frustrated with inconsistency in his performances.

With his status as a full international, his age profile and the two-and-a-half years remaining on his deal, the interest from one of his homeland’s leading clubs could make Yilmaz the ideal player from whom to raise funds at Ibrox.
