Rangers news: Footage emerges of Ibrox damage by Storm Eowyn
Rangers are the latest side to see their ground being damaged by the effects of Storm Eowyn, according to Rangers Review.
Footage emerged on X (24 January) showing parts of the roof of the main stand flying away due to heavy winds.
Peak winds have reached 100mph with much of Scotland being told to stay at home.
Rangers have to put serious work into renovating Ibrox
The recent damages highlight serious concerns regarding the quality of construction and maintenance at the stadium.
This incident not only points to potential shoddy workmanship but also underscores the urgency for the board to address and improve the structural integrity and safety of the stadium.
With such extreme weather events becoming more frequent, the board must ensure that Ibrox is not only a venue for football but also a safe environment for fans and staff.
This involves a comprehensive review of current maintenance practices, possibly engaging with structural engineers for a thorough assessment and investing in robust materials and construction techniques that can withstand Scotland’s harsh weather conditions.
The board’s failure to act could result in further damage, increased repair costs, and most critically, endanger the lives of thousands of supporters, which is simply unacceptable given the importance of fan safety in modern football.
Hopefully, serious consideration is put into this over the coming months as it’s unacceptable, to say the least.
