Nedim Bajrami ‘worry’ raised in Rangers defeat to Manchester United

Four Lads are “really worried” about Nedim Bajrami after his performance for Rangers in the 2-1 loss against Manchester United.

The 25-year-old was given the nod to start at Old Trafford in the Europa League on Thursday (23 January) after contributing two assists in the 5-0 win against Fraserburgh in the Scottish Cup last weekend.

However, Philippe Clement may very well regret his decision – the Albanian was a passenger throughout his 70 minutes on the pitch in Manchester, with Four Lads expressing serious concerns via X (23 January).

Writing: “Bajrami really does have the heart of a mouse. [I’m] really worried about what he is showing, [he] looks totally half-hearted in everything.”

Nedim Bajrami disappears for Rangers v Manchester United

It is one thing to pick up two assists against a fifth-tier outfit in Scottish football, and while he was never expected to repeat this feat at Old Trafford, the supporters deserved a better display from Bajrami.

To be singled out for a negative performance in a match where Jack Butland punched the ball into his own net is some achievement.

Rangers frustrated the hosts throughout the first half and should have aimed to build on the momentum in the second 45 minutes, but they were undone by a couple of preventable goals either side of Cyriel Dessers’ temporary leveller.

Clement has been operating under ever-present pressure throughout the campaign, and results like beating Manchester United are exactly what could have turned around his fortunes at Ibrox.

What happened at Old Trafford was beyond cruel – four minutes after Dessers drew the Gers level, Bruno Fernandes stepped up to shatter the celebrations of the travelling support.

In matches where the sides are so obviously mismatched on paper, all it takes is 100 per cent effort and dedication to swing the pendulum.

Nevertheless, Bajrami, who has been hailed as “brilliant” at times for Rangers, might as well have stayed on the coach because he certainly left no impact on the pitch at Old Trafford.
