Storm Eowyn: Rangers fans could be stranded after Man Utd as travel update emerges

Rangers supporters could find themselves stranded in Manchester after their Europa League tie due to Storn Eowyn, according to Alan Douglas.

Writing in the print edition of The Daily Mail (23 January, page 76), Douglas reported that an amber weather warning and gale-force winds could spell difficulty getting back up to Scotland.

The TransPennine Express train operator has also warned that trains between Glasgow and Manchester will be “severely impacted”, which could result in major delays and cancellations.

The story in the Mail said that TPE are warning customers now to travel on routes between Manchester/Liverpool and Glasgow/Edinburgh due to potentially dangerous conditions.

Rangers prepare to take on Manchester United

Although there are weather warnings in place, these are unlikely to discourage too many Rangers supporters who are preparing to head down to Old Trafford for Thursday night’s (23 January) Europa League tie.

While their domestic form is the complete opposite, the Gers have shown excellent away form throughout their European run of fixtures so far which is something they will be hoping to continue tonight.

Furthermore, with problems in Manchester both on and off the pitch, this could be a great time for the Light Blues to take advantage and get a result which would see them go above the Red Devils in the Europa League table.

With many supporters expected to travel whether for the game or to watch in a fan park, there could well be a hard path when trying to get back to Scotland.

However, if Philippe Clement’s side can come away with a result from Old Trafford, it will surely soften the blow of any travel delays on the way home.
