Sam Lammers joke cracked as Rangers prediction made v Manchester United

Andy Newport fired a joke in the direction of Sam Lammers ahead of the Europa League clash between Rangers and Manchester United on Thursday.

The Dutchman was sold on in the summer transfer window after having a less-than-successful stint at Ibrox.

Lammers now plies his trade for Eredivisie side FC Twente but that didn’t stop Daily Record journalist Newport cracking a joke about the number nine in his prediction for how the game is going to pan out when the Gers travel to Old Trafford for the Europa League clash.

“Rangers will miss suspended Mo Diomande but should still carry enough threat to trouble the Red Devils,” he shared via the Daily Record’s print edition (23 January, page 45).

“If Sam Lammers can score at Old Trafford, you have to fancy his former team to do the same. “Manchester United 1 – 1 Rangers.”

Rangers could pull off an upset against Manchester United

Once upon a time, there was a real aura about United at Old Trafford and the trip would have been a daunting one for Rangers.

However, with the Gers’ away form in Europe and United’s current abysmal run of form, it feels like Philippe Clement’s men could at the very least leave Old Trafford with a point to their name.

In fact, they could even leave with all three points added to their tally if Hamza Igamane can continue his upward trajectory over the past few months.

While the Gers’ form in the Scottish Premiership has been far from ideal, it feels like they step things up a gear in Europe which bodes well for them on Thursday night.

At the moment, it’s anyone’s guess how things are going to end up but unless the Red Devils have somehow managed to turn a corner overnight, the game could end up being a lot closer than many think.

In other Rangers news, Philippe Clement could solve an obvious problem with thee the transfer of a “superb” defender.
