Rio Ferdinand fumes live on air at what he saw during Manchester United v Rangers

Rio Ferdinand was fuming to see Manchester United have a goal ruled out against Rangers after Leny Yoro was deemed to have fouled Robin Propper from a corner.

United thought they had taken the lead in Thursday’s Europa League clash when Matthijs De Ligt headed an Amad Diallo corner past Jack Butland with 24 minutes played, only to see the goal immediately chalked off.

Yoro was deemed to have fouled Propper off the ball, with VAR agreeing with the on-field decision to disallow the goal, leaving Ferdinand fuming at the incident.

While commentating on TNT Sports’ coverage of the game [23 January, 8:24pm], Ferdinand said: “I’m not having that.

“That is so soft. He’s just touched him, he’s leaned on him slightly and he’s gone down like a pack of cards.”

The sides went into the half-time at Old Trafford all square at 0-0.

Rangers fortunate after first-half incident

Rangers certainly didn’t deserve to find themselves a goal down, but they can thank their lucky stars that they didn’t with Ferdinand well within his right to fume at the decision.

Yoro made barely any contact with Propper, but as usual when it comes to VAR, the on-field decision was always unlikely to be changed.

Rangers certainly had the better chances in the first half with two guilt-edged opportunities spurred by Ridvan Yilmaz and Nico Raskin, both saved by Altay Bayindir.

Frustration can be sensed at Old Trafford and if the Gers can find that opening goal, it will do wonders for their chances of leaving Old Trafford with all three points.

Philippe Clement will take plenty of optimism from his side’s first-half showing, but unless they take their chances when they come, it will likely come to nothing with the game certainly there for the taking.
