Man United v Rangers postponement: Ibrox official issues update amid red warning

Rangers supporters may face a struggle getting back from Manchester tomorrow due to Storm Eowyn affecting the trains.

The Gers head to Old Trafford on Thursday (23 January) for their Europa League tie against Manchester United. However, a red warning has been issued in parts of Scotland for Friday (24 January) and as a result, the West Coast Main Line will be closed north of Preston on Friday.

Train tickets will be valid until Sunday 26 January and refunds will be available for those who can’t travel. However, supporters have been urged to extend their stay in Manchester if possible to try and make it easier for their return to Scotland, with the game not expected to be postponed at this stage.

The Rangers safety liaison officer urged supporters to be vigilant as he provided the update via X writing: “Travel Update: Due to Storm Eowyn, the West Coast Main Line will be closed north of Preston tomorrow (24 Jan). No trains will run between Preston and Scotland. Stay safe and check Avanti West Coast for updates.”

Rangers prepare to take on Manchester United

The Light Blues supporters will be looking forward to their trip to Old Trafford, especially with their opponents having a tough time on and off the pitch which could boost Philippe Clement’s side towards getting a result.

The Gers have good away form in their European Cup run this term and therefore, they will be eager to build on this, especially as the Scottish Premiership looks far too far out of reach now.

With that in mind, the travel update isn’t what supporters will have wanted to hear with many trains from Glasgow to Manchester having to change at Preston to use the West Coast mainline back to Scotland.

Nevertheless, many of the diehard Light Blues contingent will not be put off their travels by the update as they look to back their side on Thursday night.

However, as they struggle to make their way home on Friday, they will be hoping that their side can produce a performance that makes the hassle worth it.
