Chris Sutton hits out at what Ferdinand said after Rangers v Manchester United

Chris Sutton was not happy after Rio Ferdinand said that Bruno Fernandes would find it easy in the Scottish Premiership after Manchester United beat Rangers 2-1 at Old Trafford on Thursday.

After the Red Devils scrapped to a victory over the Glasgow giants in the UEFA Europa League on 23 January, former Chelsea ace Jody Morris asked Ferdinand if his former club would finish in the top three in the Premiership.

The United legend, who was fuming after Matthijs de Ligt had a goal disallowed, provided a witty reply, saying that Fernandes would score 112 goals a season in Scotland’s top-flight.

“Bruno [Fernandes] would score 112 goals a season up there”, Ferdinand wrote on X (23 January).

Sutton instantly hit back at the former defender, quipping that Manchester United would struggle to beat St. Mirren.

“St Mirren would beat Manchester United comfortably”, Sutton replied.

Rangers walk away from Manchester United with pride

As a former Celtic player, Sutton has a habit of taking digs at Rangers whenever things do not go their way.

However, even he would have been proud of Philippe Clement and Co’s performance at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The Light Blues held their own against the Premier League giants for the most part and only went down to a Jack Butland own-goal in the second half.

Rangers managed to silence the Old Trafford crowd for a few good minutes after Cyriel Dessers grabbed a late equaliser.

It would have been a night of joy for the Gers fans in Manchester had it not been for a late, late winner from Fernandes.

It was certainly heartbreaking to see United go back in front after Dessers had pulled level for the visitors.

Nevertheless, Rangers can take pride in their performance as they put up a good representation of Scottish football.
