BBC pundit blown away by ‘outrageous’ Rangers moment v Manchester United

Cyriel Dessers’ goal for Rangers in their 2-1 defeat against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Thursday was “outrageous”, according to Marvin Bartley.

The Nigerian set up a dramatic climax for the UEFA Europa League game on 23 January by nullifying Jack Butland’s own-goal in the 88th minute, with Bruno Fernandes then netting the winner for the hosts in injury time.

Bartley instantly took to social media to express his shock, while also claiming that he will use the opportunity to hit back at the striker’s critics.

“That is outrageous from Dessers!”, Bartley wrote on X (23 January).

“Might go back and respond to those people who were giving me stick for saying he was decent!”

Cyriel Dessers to still leave Rangers?

It has been a remarkable week for Dessers as he followed up his hat-trick against Fraserburgh with a goal that silenced the Old Trafford crowd, albeit for only four minutes.

The former Feyenoord frontman has now bagged five goals and an assist in his last three appearances for the Light Blues across all competitions.

However, that has not stopped rumours about a potential exit for the 30-year-old during the ongoing winter transfer window.

Dessers is heavily linked with a move away from Ibrox before the window closes.

With Hamza Igamane establishing himself as Philippe Clement’s first-choice striker, it makes sense for the Glasgow giants to offload the Belgium-born centre-forward.

However, it remains to be seen if Rangers will be able to find a suitable buyer for him before the window slams shut on 3 February.

Leganes are said to be working on a deal to take Dessers to Spain behind the scenes [Daily Mail, 23 January].

In other Rangers news, this Gers star is now likely to leave in the summer with Leeds United lurking.
