Rangers will lick their lips after Ruben Amorim ‘breakdown’ at Man United

Philippe Clement has the perfect opportunity to pile further misery on Ruben Amorim when Rangers face Manchester United in the Europa League.

The Gers can stake a claim to qualify for the knockout rounds with a victory at Old Trafford on Thursday (23 January) with pressure building on Amorim in Manchester going into the clash.

However, the result could be decided before a ball has been kicked after the Portuguses boss “smashed the dressing room TV” in a heated rant after the 3-1 loss against Brighton in the Premier League (Daily Mail, 21 January).

Rangers have the psychological edge against Manchester United

While Clement is no stranger to the pressure of success at Ibrox, for once, the Belgian’s increasingly uncertain future will not be the main focus heading to Old Trafford.

As widely quoted across the UK media and mentioned in the same Daily Mail report, Amorim has also dubbed his side “the worst in Manchester United history”.

The wheels are falling off at the Red Devil as Amorim’s breakdown arrives at the perfect time for Clement.

Rangers produced a dominant performance against Tottenham at Ibrox on 12 December, in a match the visitors were “lucky” to salvage a share of the spoils after Dejan Kulusevski drew level in the final 15 minutes.

Although there was an extra incentive to gain bragging rights in Glasgow as ex-Celtic hero Ange Postecoglou needed a win north of the border, the Light Blues have already stepped up to the plate against Premier League opposition this year.

Amorim is enduring a tough spell in Manchester, and his fate at Old Trafford, only two months after arriving from Sporting CP, could be decided by Clement when two British heavyweights meet on Thursday.
