Rangers transfer news: David Edgar reacts as Ibrox starlet seals permanent exit
David Edgar shared his four-word reaction as Alex Lowry’s permanent transfer from Rangers to Wycombe Wanderers was confirmed.
The Heart and Hand podcaster posted on X (21 January) in response to the Gers’ own post to wish the 21-year-old midfielder well as his anticipated move to the EFL League One side was sealed.
An academy product who has come through the ranks at Auchenhowie, Lowry hadn’t made a first-team appearance for the Light Blues across the past two seasons, with just 14 in total since his debut in 2022.
Edgar’s reaction was short and sweet, saying: “Hope he does well.”
Alex Lowry seals inevitable transfer away from Rangers
Given his lack of game-time in a light blue jersey since the end of the 2022/23 campaign, it’s no surprise to see that Lowry has headed for pastures new in order to get some first-team action under his belt.
A loan move to Hearts last term was cut short halfway through in January 2024, and since then, Lowry has had to settle for a place on the Gers’ extended bench, or only featuring in B Team matches.
Both Lowry and fellow academy product Adam Devine – another player whose minutes have totalled zero in recent times – were expected to depart ahead of schedule this month, either on loan or permanently.
Rather than remaining north of the border though, Lowry will now ply his trade in England’s third tier with Wycombe, hoping to finally stake his first-team claims away from Rangers’ high-pressure environment.
Ibrox can be a powder-keg of atmosphere and expectation at the best of times, and given this hardly allows for the development of youngsters to be prioritised, a change of scenery could see Lowry thrive.
