McCoist drops Rangers and Man Utd verdict amid ‘Really Poor’ admission

Ally McCoist believes that it’s “almost impossible” to call which way the Europa League clash between Rangers and Manchester United is going to go.

The two sides are set to face off on Thursday at Old Trafford with Philippe Clement’s men currently sitting in eighth place, just one point behind the Red Devils.

Speaking live on talkSPORT (22 January, 06:25am), Rangers legend McCoist shared his thoughts on the tie, especially considering Rangers’ “really poor” away form domestically.

“I think they’re both average [Manchester United and Rangers], at that level I think they’re both average,” he said.

“I think Rangers have been terrific away from home in Europe, really poor away from home domestically and Manchester United, you just absolutely do not know what you’re going to get.

“I was at the Southampton game and they should have beat them, Amad scored a hat trick in the last eight minutes and I’m telling you, Southampton should have beaten them, it’s almost impossible to call because I think they’re both in average form.”

Philippe Clement needs a win over Manchester United at Rangers

The 2024/25 season has been one that fans of Rangers will no doubt want to forget as soon as possible.

Although they’re second in the Scottish Premiership and put up a more than solid fight against Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final, it feels like they should have done a lot better than what they have this term.

Since the start of the campaign, Clement’s role as Rangers boss has been under some major scrutiny and a victory against Manchester United could start to turn fans back on his side.

While the Belgian’s job isn’t exactly under fire from the higher-ups at the moment, if the Gers’ performances continue as they have done over the last few weeks, it’s hard to see how Patrick Stewart and co. could keep the 50-year-old in his role.

Things haven’t been much better at Old Trafford this season either with the Red Devils currently sitting 13th in the Premier League.

Only time will tell what the tie on Thursday has in store but at the moment, it feels like it could be anyone’s game.
