Manchester United v Rangers: Kris Boyd makes ‘Scary’ claim live on Sky Sports
Kris Boyd believes Ruben Amorim’s claims about Man United being the worst side in their history are “probably true” ahead of their Europa League clash with Rangers.
Rangers are going about their business in the Europa League well so far this season, having secured a point against Tottenham last time out.
An away encounter at Old Trafford seems daunting on paper, but given the form of the Red Devils, Rangers have every chance of achieving a result.
On the back of losing to Brighton at the weekend, Amorim questioned if United’s current crop are the worst in the club’s entire history.
Asked about those comments on Sky Sports News [22 January, 10:29am], former Rangers ace Boyd said: “What [Amorim] has been saying is probably true, that’s the scary part.
“You look at Manchester United and they just seem to be all over the place. For Rangers, it’s an opportunity to go and maybe get something, it is a step up for them.
“They showed against Tottenham Hotspur that they can still cause problems. But that was at home.
“Rangers away from home in Europe have been good, but away from home in the Scottish Premiership have been really poor. So it would depend on what Rangers team turns up basically.”
Rangers need to take advantage of Man United disarray
Very rarely will the Gers have an encounter with Manchester United where it wouldn’t necessarily be deemed as an upset if they were to win, but Thursday will certainly be a case of that.
United are enduing their worst home campaign in a lifetime, which reflects how bad they have been under Erik ten Hag and now Amorim.
If Rangers aren’t able to capitalise on that, it will probably be seen as a disappointment by many and certainly a missed opportunity to secure three points against a side that were tipped to be the favourites for the competition right at the start.

Philippe Clement’s side need to start the game well and if they can do just that, everything will fall into their favour with the home atmosphere unlikely to be particularly pleasant
Rangers really need their key players to setup up to the plate at Old Trafford, and should they do so, anything is possible.
