Billy Dodds makes Rangers prediction v Man Utd in ‘Nightmare’ admission

Billy Dodds says Rangers are playing Manchester United at a “great time” as they look to get a result in the Europa League.

The Gers travel to Old Trafford on Thursday (23 January) knowing a result will take them above Manchester United in the table.

Although they are struggling domestically, the Gers are travelling to a Red Devils side that are facing a crisis both on and off the pitch this term.

Speaking on The Go Football Radio Show Podcast (21 January, 12:05), ex-Gers striker Dodds said previously it would have been a “nightmare” for Rangers to face United, but predicted now is a great time for them to take advantage of the turmoil at Old Trafford.

He said: “It’s a great time for Rangers to get them.

“Rangers, although they’ve not got a great record away from home domestically, they’ve a good record away from home in the Europa League so Rangers can’t get Manchester United at a better time.

“Going there, their form’s decent Rangers and a struggling Manchester United. So maybe a few years back you’re thinking that could be an absolute nightmare for them, maybe four or five and that. Not now.”

Rangers can take advantage of Manchester United

Due to the fact they have had a disappointing season in the Scottish Premiership this term, Philippe Clement’s side have to put their focus into the Europa League and Scottish Cup to ensure the campaign isn’t a complete write-off.

Historically, Old Trafford would have been a hard place to go to but with their struggles this season too, it is unlikely to be the fortress it once was meaning the Gers have the opportunity to go and create even more pressure for United boss Ruben Amorim.

A result away at the Red Devils would be an excellent occasion for the supporters and could ease the sting of some of the disappointment they have faced throughout the campaign so far.

Therefore, as Dodds says, the Light Blues must take advantage of this situation and make sure they come away from the Europa League tie on top with a great opportunity standing in front of them.
