Rangers ‘to make quick’ Ianis Hagi offer after ‘surprise’ Ibrox reveal

Rangers need to agree on a new contract with Ianis Hagi quickly, Barry Ferguson says.

The ex-Gers star was “surprised” to learn that the Romanian midfielder’s deal expires at the end of the season rather than in 18 months.

Ferguson has urged the Light Blues to meet with the 26-year-old and agree on fresh terms as soon as possible.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show (20 January), the 46-year-old said: “Another thing that caught me by surprise, Hagi’s out of contract in the summer.

“I was surprised if I’m being honest. I thought he had another 18 months left on his deal. That’s the one they need to sort out very quickly.”

Ianis Hagi new contract is a no-brainer for Rangers

Securing Hagi’s future should be one of the priorities at Ibrox in the coming months, as losing him on a free transfer in the summer would be disappointing.

After a long wait, the Romania international has once again shown glimpses of his talent at the Glaswegian outfit.

Having picked up a severe injury at the beginning of 2022, the 26-year-old struggled to get back into the first-team setup at the Bears.

Rangers sent Hagi out on loan to Alaves last season, but he was unable to make a mark in Spain either.

Last summer, the midfielder’s stint at the Gers looked to be ending after he was frozen out of the squad.

The Romanian ace was made to train and play with the reserve side before eventually being given an opportunity by Philippe Clement after a breakthrough in talks.

Since the 26-year-old’s inclusion in the starting line-up, the Glaswegian outfit have been performing relatively well.

The Ibrox faithful will hope he stays at the Bears beyond the current campaign.

In other Rangers news, Hagi could demand big money before being sold within months.
